throwback to my busking days aka NYCSubwayGirl
Recently I was asked to chat about my years busking in the New York City subway system as a member of the program Music Under New York, now called MTA Music. During those years I was known as NYCSubwayGirl. That conversation prompted me to dig up a compilation video that I made of a year following and videoing myself and other buskers. The experiences that were captured due to the low quality in the recording, is what I call a Lo-fi - Hi-human content. I hope you enjoy it:
Performing in public spaces as a busker is an amazing experience. I blogged about it for many years and filmed myself and others in a project that I called The Inspiration Project. You can find videos here of the people I interviewed who stopped by to chat with me while I was busking in Grand Central, or Columbus Circle, or Union Square to name a few. I asked a simple yet complex question “What’s your inspiration?” The results were deep sometimes metaphorical, sometimes analytical, or just straight out of the mouth gems that expressed the beauty of our humanity. I entered the project to the NYC Chain Film Festival, and won best documentary web series in 2014. Here is one of the films in the series that I entered
and an interview with Chain Film Fest Director Kirk Gostkowski
I have been busking weekly during the Sturgeon Bay market and it has been such a thrilling thing to get back into public space performing.
